OUP have now put out the electronic form of my book, with its own DOI: you can find it here.
My impression is that academics are still learning to write in the knowledge that the eventual book will be an e-book, and one presented in a relatively sophisticated format rather than as a series of page-images. The press’s guide for authors forbids various turns of phrase judged too material (or ‘codexical’?), such as explicit references to the book’s own pages. This proved an interesting challenge, and resulted in a book dealing with material things in dematerialised prose. That represents our current moment well, though: it’s often observed that the advent of e-books is one factor pushing us to attend more to physical books in research.
